Save the date for the next AAUW Tech Savvy Conference!

The Fergus Falls AAUW chapter will host the next AAUW Tech Savvy Conference (AKA STEAM Girls Saturday) on Saturday, April 14, 2018 from 9:30 am to 11:30 am at the DNR Building in Fergus Falls. 

AAUW Tech Savvy is a daylong science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) career conference designed to attract girls in sixth through ninth grades to these fields. AAUW Tech Savvy also includes an important parent program that encourages families to reinforce girls’ interest in future education and careers in STEM. AAUW branches have taken the lead in organizing and holding these highly successful, one-day STEM conference for girls nationwide; find a conference site below or contact your local branch if you’d like to organize an event in your community.

AAUW Tech Savvy was founded in 2006 by the AAUW Buffalo (NY) Branch under the leadership of former branch president Tamara Brown. This annual event has become a huge success, serving upwards of 700 girls and 200 parents each spring at the University of Buffalo in New York. Today more than 15 AAUW branches organize and hold AAUW Tech Savvy conferences throughout the country.

"The Fergus Falls American Association of University Women is celebrating their 57th year!

Membership is strong for the Fergus Falls AAUW and growing steadily, and the branch continues to expand its efforts to carryout the AAUW’s mission of “Advancing equity for women and girls through advocacy, education, philanthropy and research.”

One of the most prominent fundraising events will take place on Saturday, Nov. 4 this year – the bi-annual Tour of Homes. All proceeds from the tour go directly to fund college scholarships for young women."

Techno Girl Saturday--the show!

Techno Girl Saturday is March 31

For the second year in a row, the AAUW Fergus Falls branch is holding a STEM (Science Technology Engineering Math) event for elementary-school girls. This year we are inviting 5th and 6th graders to learn how technology is used to produce a television show.  The event is Saturday, March 31, from 10 a.m. to Noon.

A BIG shout out to Tim Litt, who is giving his time and talent to teach the girls about video production, and to Otter Tail Telcom, for allowing us to take over their studio for the morning. Thanks too to Rob Rogholt and Radio Shack for providing the girls with flash drives.

Margaret Anderson Kelliher to speak at May 16 celebration

Margaret Anderson Kelliher is our keynote speaker at our 50th anniversary celebration, Monday, May 16, at the Bigwood Event Center. Her speech title is: Women and the Future of Minnesota’s Workforce: STEMming the Tide.

There’s no doubt technology will play a major role in future workforce development. Many of the careers our young children will have don’t even exist yet. The Minnesota High Tech Association helps prepare for the jobs of the future by creating the best environment possible for Minnesota technology companies. Educating our future workforce is a big part of the MHTA mission.

MHTA President Margaret Anderson Kelliher will speak about new research that shows Minnesota has the biggest demand in the country for a highly educated, advanced workforce. That’s why we need to encourage our young people—particularly girls—to seriously consider STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics) careers.

Margaret Anderson Kelliher joined the Minnesota High Tech Association as its president and CEO earlier this year after a 12-year career in the Minnesota House of Representatives. As Speaker of the Minnesota House, she was a champion for the education and workforce issues that are central to the mission of MHTA.

She is sure to inform, inspire and entertain us!
