"Bill Gates, Hans Christian Andersen, Thomas Edison, Charles Schulz and Jane Austen. Most people would know who these people are and what they are famous for. On the flip side, many probably don’t know all of these people and many more were/are on the autism spectrum.
“If you’ve met one person with autism, you’ve met one person with autism,” Steven Vergiels said. “It’s really emphasizing the individuality part.”
Steven Vergiels is also on the autism spectrum and he and his mother, Carrie Beithon have done several presentations to educate communities about autism, including for American Association of University Women."
According to Jane McLandress, president of AAUW, the presentation was well done and well received. She and AAUW asked Beithon and her son to do a presentation for them, because she knew they had educated many people throughout the state several times. According to Beithon, who is also a member of AAUW, she and Vergiels have presented maybe 50 times, mostly in schools for teachers and teaching staff."
